Literature Text

Behind each screen a face
Behind each face a thought
Every one filled with deep emotions
Each just as powerful as the last.

Different minds are prone to different actions,
Often leading to misunderstandings
But the worst cases come in the darkness of night
When the harsh treatment is meant to be.

Taunting jokes may be cracks of a whip,
Words said behind backs are slashes of blades,
Behind every tear lays a scar
A scar set by us, those who victimized.

There are two sides to every story
One scarlet red and one cobalt blue
People only see your outside actions
And never know what’s inside.

Distant pleas for help are muffled
By those who wish to do you harm,
Coughing, wheezing, crawling to get out
Only to be stomped by the ones who mock.

Jeering actions are stabs of a knife,
Mocking words are nails jabbed into fingers,
Behind every tear lays a scar
A scar carved by us, those who mocked.

While one may be quietly weeping
Their entire world is being shattered
Others may be quiet and shy
Because they’ve been rejected in the past.

Someone may have a smile on their face
But they're just a hollow shell
It’s never our place to judge others
Over what we see them do.

A rumor made is a needle filled with poison,
As it grows the stinging poison spreads,
Behind every tear lays a scar
A scar gouged by us, those who taunted.

While to us they may be just words
We're beating and abusing them,
We’re kicking and punching them to the ground
And they are slowly dying.

They’ve lost all strength to call for help
And sit, unable to move
The injuries we’ve been causing them
Will kill them in the end.

An insult is a slit in the throat,
A simple whisper a break in the neck,
Behind every tear lays a soul sick with agony
And it’s nobody’s fault but our own.
I made this for school as part of our violence/bullying unit in health. It's not particularly violent, just a little descriptive of how words can feel to victims of harsh treatment.

One could also say it's a song, but I didn't have a melody in mind for it.
